Christmas 2017 -- a public letter

Life has changed a lot this year. Some friends know. But the holiday letter has not been included in cards, just a few personal notes in the several sent so far. Retiring from Kroll and moving back to Ohio in June, after decades in New York City, to be a helpful grandmother to baby Levi -- Kat's son, now almost 15 months old, has been quite an adventure.

Akron after New York City is culture shock and I miss friends, public transportation, the hustle and bustle, museums, theatre, nearby amenities, and walking. Changing churches again is important and I have gone from Church of the Resurrection to Church of Our Savior, another Episcopal entity with a New York City rector, who by further coincidence I met years ago at LI Episcopal Women's Cursillo #46. There were three churches I was going to check out but I took this as a sign. No sign of an active NOW chapter, however, so I rejoined Ashtabula NOW which I helped find with the help of Jackie Hillyer and Kathy Nagle decades back. It is a nominal thing but I hope to connect with some old friends. Peace people seem to be lacking too, at least in terms of an organized group. I am hoping that Fellowship of Reconciliation will come up with the names of some area people and maybe we can birth or rebirth something. I have found a friendly Kiwanis local club and we'll see how active I can be, given baby duty, but I need to serve the community and feed my spirit -- though Levi's smile goes a long way with the spirit category. Let's say I need some adult activity.

And I need to get organized. Being at baby's a lot, there is still much to be done in the home organization area, which has never been a strong suit as close friends will attest. I have been too busy saving the world and that need most certainly still continues. The 1% are way too strong these days and Occupied needs to resurge too. I started a bullet journal but I have been sketchy with it and hope to start a NEW more successful journal with 2018. (OMG -- 2018!!)

But Kat is here in Akron and now with K. Hovnanian Homes and Michael Dylan won/earned the position of mayor of not-to-distant University Heights so I am lucky to be close to certain family members, though some remain scattered and not seen enough. I don't have Broadway or Time Square lights but I have new chapters to live, with God's help, and more determination and organization on my part. It is not easy and dear friends are missed but a phone call or a Facebook message or text message away. Tradeoffs. The good news is I have extra miles on my leased Subaru and life is full of possibility as time allows. I've a new Mac and have joined Ancestry so I hope to reconnect with the past too. Maybe I will get back into blogging -- more of us need to -- to stay in touch. Feel free to respond to this or other posts to come and I will check back more regularly and offer more Quick TAKES and Tasty Tidbits too (QuickTakesdotorg should lead you there).

Bless you and healing peace hugs.

Christmas 2014 -- the season

Few holiday cards have been sent yet (plenty of excuses, time/work/flu/etc.) but I hope to continue to send greetings to friends and family as time and all those et ceteras allow. Meanwhile, I am sharing the public album of Facebook 2014 holiday photos to recap the Christmas season. Supposedly this Facebook link -- which I turned into a tinyurl -- is viewable easily by non-Facebook folks and will be here for those friends to have this blog link from previous cards. Happy Holidays, everybody!!!

PS To preview pix link use this one: http://preview.tinyurl.com/oqkqp3a but here are two holiday photos:

Marillion - Gabriel's Message

Michael Dylan played Marillion's A Collection of Recycled Gifts CD as we drove back from Christmas visiting in Erie. This was one of the songs: haunting, made more so by the way Steve Hogarth sings it. Love it and want to learn the song myself. 26956 views today but it was more like 26917 when I first found it the other day and posted to FB. Christmas or not, you want to hear this song. And do follow Marillion on Facebook. They plan to tour the USA in 2016 but will do a Montreal weekend in 2015…..

Still around and still busy

I'm still around Queens and Manhattan and Facebook and Twitter -- and I have been busy in my new apartment in a little more suburban Queens. My to-do list overfloweth, but I wanted to leave a note, in case friends want to catch up. Peace hugs, one and all!!

The Year -- where did it go?

Hmmmm. Anyone checking here as I write this will think I either fell off my corner of the world or am leading a very boring life. Well, maybe I will update this is sections, retroactively, but in the meantime, dear friends, if you are curious and/or eager for a Kate Anne Update, look at my photos sets on Flickr.com. I've been a busy activist and busy at work (not necessarily in that order). It has been a change year with friends departing -- dear Shirley Marcus in July -- and others leaving NYC. But am back in Ohio for Christmas thanks to a lovely speedy Greyhound overnight trip which was blessed by a friendly conversation with Margaret, a Russian pianist who teaches at the Nyack school in NYC, and was coming to Cleveland to visit her husband who teaches here.

But I have a few Christmas cards with me and will send out a few -- others will get New Years notes, Valentines, and/or Easter/spring cards, with any luck and with help from the post office. In the meantime, the best to you and yours, with blessings and love and all good things in abundance. Hugs!!

Tourist: Love the Library

I actually played tourist sans Kat today. After church I had brunch with friends at Bliss St. Station then went into Manhattan to drop off some library books at the Mid-town branch of the NYC library of 5th Ave & 40th and pay some fines from when I forgot to renew online in time ($14.50 -- but a good cause -- looking on the bright side :) then I stopped at the nearby research library [once the "main branch" officially now the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building] where the Library lions Patience and Fortitude hold court, saw the CoExist exhibit on the 3 Abrahamic religions, and then proceeded to explore the recently restored building: gorgeous, complete with WPA paints in the 3rd floor McGraw Rotunda and in 20+ years of living here I have never made it past the first floor. They have a Wi-Fi reading room where these great paintings grace the walls (mostly of famous New Yorkers) plus there was a Radioactive exhibit of Pierre and Marie Curie. Awesome! I more than got my fine back -- all this with lugging around a few new books so I got exercise too :) Lovely day AND I have tomorrow off.
